A mixture of steam and diesel power...
The Late Summer Weekend is a new venture for the West Somerset Railway intended to give a final summer holiday weekend of an intensive steam and diesel hauled train service for both enthusiasts and the general public alike.

Catering...
On the trains - bar and buffet facilities will be available throughout the event on most trains serving a very good range of high quality hot and cold food, tea/coffee and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
At the stations - refreshments including hot food will be available at principal stations including Bishops Lydeard, Williton, Watchet and Minehead. Light refreshments will aslo be available at Blue Anchor and Crowcombe Heathfield. At Minehead, the Railway's 'Turntable Cafe' will be open serving a wide range of hot and cold drinks and food.
Museums...
The Gauge Museum at Bishops Lydeard, Somerset & Dorset Railway TrustExternal website museum at Washford, and Blue Anchor Railway Museum will be open. Trackwork display at Crowcombe Heathfield. The Taunton Model Railway Group’s base at Bishops Lydeard will also be open (small separate admission charge payable).
Lineside Photography...
A reminder that access to the lineside and other areas away from the public areas is restricted to those with a valid Lineside Photography Permit. More information...
Free bus link - Bishops Lydeard and Taunton
A special free bus service linking Taunton Station, the Park and Ride car park at Silk Mill and Bishops Lydeard will run at least every 30 minutes on both days. The service will start from Taunton Station from 9am collecting from under the Taunton Station bridge each day with the last bus connecting with the final train arrival at Bishops Lydeard.
First Bus run a service from the down side of Taunton Station at 14 and 44 minutes past the hour on Saturday to Bishops Lydeard and 35 minutes past the hour on Sunday.
Car Parking...
Free car parking will be available at Bishops Lydeard, but please arrive at least thirty minutes before the departure of the train on which you initially wish to travel.
Retail Outlets...
The Railway's principal shops at Minehead and Bishops Lydeard will both be open throughout the event – offering a wide range of gifts, souvenirs, books, videos etc – and shops at several of the intermediate stations will also be open. The excellent Reader’s Halt bookstall, situated on the platform at Minehead, will also be open. A small number of sales and information stands will also be present.
Diesel Heritage Centre...
At Williton there is the chance to visit the excellent Diesel Heritage Centre, which features much information about the early Western Region diesels in particular. The shed/workshop of the Diesel & Electric Preservation Group will also be open, offering a rare glimpse inside, and several diesel locomotives will be on display in the yard, some of which can be cabbed. The DEPG sheds and yard area will be open on both days, 10am to 5pm.
Minehead Turntable...
At Minehead steam locomotives will be turned on the fully restored former GWR locomotive turntable which can be viewed from the platform and the recently opened Turntable Cafe.
Souvenir Programme...
The Souvenir Booklet with the loco diagrams should be on sale about a week before the event for £3 if ordered with advance tickets or at stations along the line. If ordered on its own by credit/debit card from Minehead the cost is £5.
Tickets...
Standard fares apply at this event. Discounts are available on Rover Tickets purchased in advance- use the Booking FormExternal website.
Rover Tickets allow you the complete freedom of the line and purchasing them is the best way of enjoying the event.
