 • Steam through the Winter Countryside...
The Winter Steam Festival promises a feast of seasonal steam. After the presents have been opened and the turkey eaten, why not come along after Christmas to savour and enjoy a busy Great Western branch line in winter...

Please note that work at Bury to fit new equipment to enable main line running to Southern Railway 4-6-0 No 850 "Lord Nelson" is still ongoing and the loco will not return to the WSR in time for the Festival.

A comprehensive timetable of trains between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead will be in operation at the Gala.
 • The Auto Train...
Our very popular Great Western auto train – featuring the superbly restored trailer No 178 hauled by GWR 0-6-0PT no 6412 – will work all the services marked "Auto" in the timetable.
 • Souvenir Programme...
A special souvenir programme – which will include the complete working timetable and the engine and coaching set diagrams – will be available in advance (from 16 December) from Minehead Station, and also from stations during the Gala, priced £2.00.
 • Tickets...
Please note that all privilege ticket, free pass and voucher facilities will not apply at the Winter Steam Festival. Ordinary fares apply to all passengers. Discounts are available on Rover Tickets purchased in advance (see below). The closing date for advance bookings is Wednesday 20 December 2006. The best way to enjoy the event to the full is to purchase a Rover Ticket – which gives you complete freedom to travel on the line for the validity of the ticket.
 • Catering...
Buffet and bar facilities will be available on most train services during the weekend, serving a range of hot and cold food (many with a local flavour), tea & coffee and a range of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Gauge Museum, Bishops Lydeard Whilst at Bishops Lydeard, come and see the many exhibits and displays of railway interest inside the refurbished Gauge Museum on Platform 1. Engine no 4561 will be on display, and there will be lots to see and do to maintain your interest while you wait for your train!
Taunton Model Railway Group, Bishops Lydeard The base of the Taunton Model Railway Group on platform 1 – which includes the excellent model of Bath Green Park station – will be open (separate small admission charge).
Bishops Lydeard Station Shop Bishops Lydeard Station Shop will also be open……offering an opportunity to spend the money you got for Christmas!
Crowcombe Heathfield Trackwork exhibition on the Down platform, including a piece of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s broad gauge track.
Williton Diesel Heritage Centre open.
Washford ome and see recent developments at the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust’s site and museum, which will be open throughout the Gala (separate admission charge).
Minehead On both days there will be a vintage bus service linking the station and village in connection with the "Dunster Days Gone By" event.
Minehead Locomotives and rolling stock on display. Minehead Station Shop will be open – offering a wide range of books, DVDs and souvenirs – as will “Reader’s Halt” at Minehead. Please note that the sheds and workshops at both Minehead and Williton, together with Blue Anchor Railway Museum, will not be open during the Winter Steam Festival (please come back and see them at next year’s Spring Steam Gala).
 • Connecting Bus Service
There is a First Bus service between Taunton and Bishops Lydeard Station [Service 28A]. WSR tickets are NOT valid on these services, except return tickets to Taunton issued by Booking Offices at Minehead, Dunster, Blue Anchor, Watchet and Williton.  • Car Parking...
Free car parking will be available at Bishops Lydeard, but please arrive at least 30 minutes before the departure of the train on which you initially wish to travel.
 • How to book...
Discounts are available on Rover Tickets purchased in advance (see below). The closing date for advance bookings is Wednesday 20 December 2006. You can book Rover Tickets at a discount in advance in the following ways...
· By telephone, using your Credit/Debit Card. Please ring 01643 704996, 9am-5pm.
· In person at Minehead Station (9am-5pm).
